Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, contends that Ghana is sliding backward instead of moving forward with the reset the National Democratic Congress government touted. He argues that key governance and economic indicators from the NDC’s first year in office reflect regression rather than progress.
In a Friday, December 12 post on social media, Miracles Aboagye accused the government of dismantling functioning systems and replacing them with alternatives he described as ineffective. He highlighted issues in healthcare delivery following the suspension of digital medical records, interruptions to drone-based services, and alleged setbacks in the fight against illegal mining.
As the 2024 campaign spokesperson for the NPP, he also criticized public sector salaries, claiming that teachers and nurses are underpaid despite a full year of work. He raised concerns about rising utility tariffs and the cost of living, even as official data suggested improvements in inflation and the stability of the national currency.
According to him, higher electricity and water tariffs, together with only modest wage adjustments for public-sector workers, have worsened living conditions for many employees.
Miracles Aboagye also condemned the mass termination of public-sector appointments, arguing that such actions undermine the NDC’s pledge of a 24-hour economy.
“The first 12 months of the NDC in office have been a period of reverse rather than the reset they promised us,” he asserted.
In contrast, the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC administration, which contends it inherited an economy in severe distress, claims that inflation has eased and the cedi has strengthened, pointing to improvements in key economic indicators.
