A bold new era for WWF Kenya: Jackson Kiplagat takes the reins!
In a move that has sparked excitement and anticipation, WWF Kenya has appointed Jackson Kiplagat as its new Chief Executive Officer. This announcement, made on December 8, 2025, during a special event at the organization's headquarters, marks a significant transition for the conservation giant.
Kiplagat, a seasoned conservationist and former Head of Conservation Programmes at WWF Kenya, steps into the role with a wealth of experience and a proven track record. He takes over from Mohamed Awer, who has dedicated over three decades to WWF and the conservation sector, with the last nine years at the helm of WWF Kenya.

Isaac Awuondo, Chairman of the WWF Kenya Board, believes so. He praised Kiplagat's leadership and experience, saying, "This is a challenging role, but he has the skills and vision to take WWF Kenya forward. We are confident he will nurture and grow this institution for years to come."
Kiplagat, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to his predecessor and reaffirmed his commitment to steering WWF Kenya towards its 2030 vision. He highlighted the organization's impressive achievements, including the growth of Kenya's black rhino population, the deployment of innovative anti-poaching technologies, and the restoration of vast landscapes.
And this is the part most people miss... WWF Kenya's impact extends beyond wildlife conservation. The organization has empowered communities, supported nature-based enterprises, and generated significant financial benefits. In FY25 alone, they reached 75,113 new beneficiaries and generated Ksh. 525.8 million through various initiatives.
In addition to wildlife and community impact, WWF Kenya has made significant strides in climate action. They have abated carbon emissions and promoted the adoption of clean energy technologies, benefiting 739 households.
On the governance front, the organization has strengthened its policies and funding, securing Ksh. 2.27 billion, an impressive 87.4% of its annual target.
The event, attended by prominent figures including Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary of the National Treasury, and Kirsten Schuijt, Director General of WWF International, celebrated these achievements and welcomed the new leadership.
